Insidious: The Red Door: Returning to the People Matt Wanted to See
Matt's spoiler-free response to The Red Door is built around a return. After the franchise's intervening stories, spending time with the Lambert family makes this feel to him like a more direct continuation of the films he originally liked.
He appreciates Patrick Wilson's work both behind and in front of the camera, with Ty Simpkins carrying more of the story. The standout newcomer is Sinclair Daniel, whose comic presence makes him interested whenever she appears. The familiarity matters, but it is not the only source of pleasure.
Matt also thinks the suspense is stronger than in the preceding installments. There are jump scares he considers cheap, yet enough psychological tension remains to make the experience work. He does not need every scare to be elegant to feel that the film has recovered something.
His three-star verdict sits close to a four in his deliberations. He sees a solid entry and, just as importantly, a suitable stopping point. Enjoying a return does not leave him demanding that the door stay open forever.
Did returning to the Lambert family restore your interest, or did you want a different direction? When a horror sequel finds a satisfying stopping point, should it resist the temptation to continue?
