What We Do in the Shadows: Immortality Still Comes with Housework
Dan's enjoyment of What We Do in the Shadows starts with a familiar comic rhythm. As an Office fan, he responds to a documentary style that lets strange people explain themselves with complete seriousness. Giving that treatment to vampires makes the everyday inconveniences even funnier.
The household details are part of the appeal. Living forever does not free these characters from chores, awkward arrangements, or the frustrations of sharing space. The fantasy becomes funny because it keeps bumping into ordinary life.
Dan finds the pacing steady and the humor durable on a repeat viewing, giving the film eight out of ten. The conversation also touches on the television version, opening up the question of whether this premise works best as a compact movie or a world you can keep returning to.
There is another revealing exchange about choosing films for the club. Bringing a favorite can introduce friends to something wonderful, but discovering an unfamiliar movie together produces a different kind of conversation. This episode has room for both the pleasure of recommending and the pleasure of being surprised.
Which ordinary household problem becomes funniest when vampires are involved? Do you prefer discovering a comedy together or introducing friends to a favorite?
