Drive: Cayla Asks Them to Listen as Closely as They Watch

Drive is one of Cayla's favorites, and her invitation to the group is specific: pay attention to the music and how it sits beside the images, reactions, and movement. For her, the soundtrack is part of the storytelling rather than an attractive layer placed over it.

Matt follows that invitation and finds moments where the relationship between sound and image clicks into place. The opening music catches him early, and the story then surprises him by moving toward an emotional connection he had not expected.

That changed expectation is important to his positive response. He does not need the movie to become the one he thought he was starting. He can be glad that it leads somewhere else, especially when the performances and atmosphere give him a way to follow.

The conversation becomes an example of sharing a favorite well. Cayla supplies a point of attention, not a demand for agreement. The others can use it to find their own experience inside a film that means something to her.

Does Drive's soundtrack reveal what its quiet characters cannot say? Which moment works because of the music, and which would remain powerful in silence?
