Jurassic Park III: The Return of Grant Is Not Enough
Matt remembers enjoying Jurassic Park III when it was new. Revisiting as an adult changes that response sharply. The lighter tone now feels less like a fresh adventure and more like a departure from the threatening world that made the first films involving.
Sam Neill remains a source of stability for him, and Billy becomes a more interesting character than he remembers. Those positives do not overcome his problems with the dialogue, performances, and reduced sense of danger. He feels too aware of the movie trying to deliver the next exciting beat.
Dan gives the pacing some credit, noticing pauses between action sequences. But he also questions the need to introduce a larger threat simply to outdo what the audience already knows. More capability does not necessarily mean more fear.
Their disagreement is less about whether Grant belongs in another film than whether this story makes that return worthwhile. Familiarity provides a welcome face, not a substitute for suspense. Matt's changed reaction also makes the episode a useful example of how childhood enjoyment and present judgment can coexist without matching.
Has Jurassic Park III changed for you on revisiting? Does its shorter, lighter adventure work on its own terms, or does comparison with the first two make that impossible?
