Fast X: Matt Finds Some Fuel Left in the Franchise
After revisiting the earlier Fast films, Matt heads into Fast X aware of how far the series has traveled from its starting point. He does not expect realism. He wants to know whether the next round of outlandish action can still be fun.
For him, it can. He enjoys this installment more than the previous two, with Jason Momoa a major reason why. The villain's unpredictable energy reminds him of different versions of the Joker without feeling like a simple imitation. That presence gives the familiar ensemble something lively to react against.
Matt also welcomes the return to cars and roads after the series' more extreme detours. The story remains ridiculous, and the question of whether any character can stay dead makes him skeptical about the stakes. But those reservations do not prevent him from enjoying the ride in front of him.
His three-out-of-five verdict describes a recovery rather than a franchise peak. He is not calling Fast X a great movie; he is saying it succeeds at providing the kind of action-packed amusement he went looking for. His defense of the series is also specific: racing was never the only ingredient, even if the missions have grown harder to believe.
Did Momoa give Fast X the energy the series needed? Can you still feel the danger when the franchise so often finds a way to bring people back?
